Arak - Sultanabad was the centre of an area well-known for producing a quality of rugs for export higher than generally available elsewhere. Its many villages housed hundreds of looms, expert weavers and dyers, with access to wool from the fat-tailed local sheep. This trade declined under the Shah when the allocation of private property replaced the semi-feudal traditions. Most weavers simply refused to work for wages, even piece-work and the craft mostly died.
This is a nice old Arak in good condition, with a plush comfortable feel.
