Antique Afshar 183x146cms

This Afshari tribal rug is obviously made on a fixed strong and static village loom, the construction being so fine and dense. These settled Afshars are the descendants of a once royal house. Nadir Shah Afshar unified Persia in the first half of the 18th century and stole the Koh-i-Noor diamond from the Delhi Moghuls. The free open design and evocative motifs hint to early tribal origins, the Seljuks and the Qizilbash Turks from Central Asia. Fascinating.
