A rare Turkoman Balisht Chuval from North West Afghanistan
Balisht is a large storage bag sometimes called Chuval in Turkish. More than a large storage bag, an important cultural object. Great shiny wool, perfect condition. The heaviest dense weaving. One wonders why the weave is so tight, and the only answer is the prospective bride showing her mettle!
Balisht are not rare, but many more recent ones have the dead wool and bad dyes of weavers undergoing drought and politically unstable conditions.
