The Boujad is the Paul Klee of Moroccan rugs. Everything the great Swiss German painter liked about North Africa finds expression in these idiosyncratic weavings.
Made by a number of related Berber tribes in the Haouz region of the Middle atlas, they are brought to the market town of Boujad for sale, hence the name.
With this Boujad rug the weaver shows her deep sense of the supernatural: Genies appear, the Spirits of Saints are conjured, the exuberant stuff of human life in the Cosmos expressed freely.
100% Sheep Wool.
