Qashgai 164x115cms

The Qashgai are a mix of Turkic, Lori, Arab and Persian clans. They are both nomadic and sedentary. Strong cultural ties bind the clans and has its expression in the glorious array of motifs. Some are magic and channel the Neolithic when the Lori first domesticated the sheep, some are heraldic in the ancient central Asian Turkic manner and some are representations of the great monuments of Persian History.

Here we see the "guls", badges of the clans and a myriad of smaller motifs.

All this in such fine knotting with great shiny wool is the essence of the art.
