The Ardebil Carpet
YOUR VISUAL MEDITATION
Handwoven in the lineage of the great Ardebil masterpieces, this rug carries both Safavid splendour and Kurdish consciousness. Take a step step inward from border to centre: the pattern remains unchanged, thru and into the central medallion, but the rhythm is quieter, and the design has a dynamic stillness at its heart. It is a journey from multiplicity to one, from the worldly to the divine. The palette, drawn from natural indigo, madder, and golden wool, breathes the same harmony seen beneath the dome of the Sheikh Safi shrine. To live with such a rug is to live with a woven prayer. A reminder that all beauty leads inward.

The 4 line inscription on the Ardebil Carpet in the V&A translates:
“Except for thy threshold, there is no refuge for me in all the world.
Except for this door there is no resting-place for my head.”
“The work of the slave of the portal, Maqsud Kashani.”
And the date: 946 in the Muslim calendar (i.e. 1539–40 AD)
