Gabbeh Rug 163 x 111 cms

$800

The medallions are called latch-hook polygons in English. The Dutch painter Hans Memling collected these rugs and so some say Memling Guls for the medallions.

Striking is the whole is made of bird heads, surrounding, protecting a couple of flowers. These bird head devices are as old as time itself.

Note the uneven sizes of the upper and lower medallions, adding an episodic structure.
