A remarkable chapter in Persian weaving history. In the aftermath of the First World War, when Persia faced famine and ruin, master weavers in Kashan revived their art using Australian Merino wool imported from Manchester’s mills. This fusion of Persian craftsmanship and the world’s finest wool created a short-lived but legendary era — the Manchester Kashan.
Woven in the 1920s, this rare example carries the grace of that revival: deep vegetal dyes, perfect proportion, and a pile of luminous softness. Most were made with red or blue fields, but this carpet, with its rare deep yellow ground, is exceptional.
A true heirloom, perfectly preserved, it embodies both survival and splendour — a reminder of a time when Persian artistry and global trade briefly aligned to create something timeless.
